Massage is one of the best way to comfort neck muscle. Put some hot oil on the back of your neck till shoulders and rub in circle motion while applying slight pressure from the tip of your fingers. This process will reduce tension in the muscles and gives you relief from the pain and stiffness.
It does not required any intense cardio workout, it’s just moving your neck to and fro to relax the neck muscles and relieving from pain. Straight your neck then move in circular motion clockwise and then anti-clockwise. In second step move your neck on the right side and stay like this for 5-10 seconds and so the same on left side. You will feel the pain lessen.
Applying heat will increase the blood circulation and enhances the healing process. Sometimes slow or irregular blood circulation also causes pain and stiffness so in that case applying heat is the best option.
You can apply moist heat that is hot shower or some people prefer heat wrap to reduce pain.
Sometimes the neck pain is caused by inflammation and in that case you can apply cold of ice to reduce inflammation, pain and stiffness.
If treating the pain yourself is not working than the second best option is to seek medical advice. That is either in form of anti-inflammation pain killer tablet or injection that works quickly.
